Established in 1977, Stepping Stones’ mission is to provide safe, developmentally appropriate services for each child we encounter. Whether it is creating new families through adoption, preserving current family bonds or reunifying families, Stepping Stones offers hope, opportunity and stability as we nurture paths to a more promising tomorrow.

While still well known for our many years as an adoption agency, our focus has evolved in recent years.  Our Maine-based programs serve women, children and families with specific focus on Cumberland, Penobscot, Aroostook, Somerset, Washington and York counties. The major goals of our programs are to stabilize and reunify homeless and struggling families, to ensure that children are safe and growing up in stable family environments, and to assist these families in obtaining income and permanent housing.  Our continuum of care provides a range of services from domestic adoption (including pre and post-placement services), community mental health services, substance abuse services, case management services, family stabilization programs, shelter and transitional housing with wrap around services for all clients needing support.
